KUCHING: Sarawak Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi have extended greetings to Christians in Sarawak as they observe Good Friday and celebrate Easter.
Wan Junaidi said Easter was a meaningful occasion for Christians to remember the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and celebrate his resurrection, which brings the eternal message of love, forgiveness, renewal and hope.
"As a Muslim, I share in the joy and reverence of this sacred season with my Christian brothers and sisters,” he said on his official Facebook page on Friday (April 18).
"Although we may worship in different ways, we are bound by our common humanity and the values that give life its deeper meaning — faith, compassion, selflessness, and above all, hope."
Wan Junaidi also reflected on how such moments of spiritual significance offer not only a time to deepen one’s relationship with God, but also an opportunity to reach out across communities, uplift one another, comfort the weary and affirm the bonds of unity as one people in Sarawak.
"Easter is a reminder that even after the darkest of nights, there is light. Even in sorrow, there is the promise of joy. It is a powerful symbol of rebirth — a message we all need in these times, regardless of religion," he added.
Wan Junaidi and Fauziah expressed their admiration and gratitude for the Christian community’s enduring contributions to the moral, social and educational fabric of Sarawak.
The Head of State also emphasised the importance of preserving the harmony and mutual respect that Sarawak is known for.
"In Sarawak, we do more than tolerate our differences — we embrace them. And in doing so, we find strength.
"Let us continue to walk together, side by side, with open hearts and shared purpose, as we build a future rooted in peace, unity, and understanding," he said.
Wan Junaidi and Fauziah concluded their message with warm wishes for comfort, joy and renewed strength for those celebrating.
"We wish all Christians a blessed Good Friday, a joyful Easter and a safe and peaceful holiday season," they said.
