Johor allocates RM213mil for 353 flood management projects

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Some RM213mil has been allocated to implement over 350 flood-related projects involving local councils since 2023, says Johor state executive councillor Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor.

The state housing and local government committee chairman said this includes the RM106mil allocated this year for flood mitigation projects in all 16 local councils statewide.

“In 2023, a total of RM54mil was allocated for 123 projects, and another RM53mil was allocated for 126 projects last year.

“These projects have been completed, and this year, we hope to complete 104 more projects with the RM106mil allocation.

“It is important to note that these are just projects under the jurisdiction of local councils, and there are other projects being undertaken by different departments,” he said.

He said this in a press conference on the sidelines of the state assembly sitting at Bangunan Sultan Ismail here on Wednesday (May 21).

Mohd Jafni said the majority of this year’s projects involve the Johor Baru City Council (MBJB), Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP) and Pasir Gudang City Council (MBPG).

“Of the 123 projects for this year, 16 are under MBJB with an allocation of about RM42mil, another 16 under MBPG with RM9.1mil, and 13 under MBIP with some RM36mil.

“We hope to resolve at least 50% of the flood issues under these three councils this year through the projects,” he said.
