Car plunges into ravine, claims lives of father and daughter in Johor

SEGAMAT: A nine-year-old girl and her father were killed after their car plunged into a ravine near Kampung Kwongsai here.

Bandar Baru Segamat Fire and Rescue Station operation commander Zainal Abidin Che Deraman said the department received a distress call about the incident at about 6.47pm on Wednesday (May 28).

"Upon arrival at the scene, the operations response team confirmed a road accident involving a car that had skidded and fallen into a ravine.

"Hydraulic ramp equipment and other special tools were used to stabilise the vehicle and rescue a victim who was trapped beneath it.

"Three victims sustained injuries but managed to exit the vehicle on their own and were taken to the hospital before the team arrived," he said in a statement.

He added that two of the victims, a 39-year-old man and his nine-year-old daughter, were confirmed dead by medical officers at the scene.

"Their bodies have been handed over to the police for further investigation.

"Four other victims, aged between two and 32, sustained injuries and are being treated at the hospital," he said.
