Selangor studying vape sales ban guidelines, says Amirudin

SHAH ALAM: The state government is currently studying proposed guidelines for banning the sale of electronic cigarettes and vapes, says Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

"In other states I have referred to, they have banned the sale, but their guidelines are unclear. Is the ban on sales only, while users can still smoke?

"If we just ban sales here, people can shop in Kuala Lumpur. So, we need to consider the issue as a whole," he said on Tuesday (June 3) after an e-bike handover ceremony at the Selangor police headquarters.

He added that discussions are ongoing with stakeholders, and they await responses from vape business owners.

"The priority, of course, is public health. We are concerned about the abuse of substances like magic mushrooms or ganja, which have appeared in some cases, though still limited," he said.

It was previously reported that Selangor is considering banning vape sales, following the example of Johor and Terengganu.
