KUALA LUMPUR: The police are in the midst of identifying the group of men responsible for the brazen attack that killed two men in front of a shopping mall at Jalan Loke Yew, Cheras.
Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad said the police have classified the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
"We are investigating further to identify the culprits involved in the attack and the motive," he said in a statement on Tuesday (June 17).
DCP Mohamed Usuf urged those with information on the case to contact Cheras police at 03-9284 5050 / 5051, KL police hotline at 03-2115 9999 or any nearest police station.
It was reported that two men were shot dead by a group of men near the lobby of a shopping mall at Jalan Loke Yew, Cheras at about midnight.
It is learnt that the victims were going to their car, which was parked nearby when the incident occurred at about 12.48am on Tuesday.
A group of men, who were wearing black ski-masks ran towards the victims and fired several shots at them.
The suspects then escaped in a vehicle.
It is learnt that the victims were shot in the body and head. They died at the scene.
CID personnel from Cheras district police headquarters were at the scene investigating along with the forensic unit.
It is believed both victims were in their 40s and from Sibu, Sarawak.
KL police are collecting information from witnesses and CCTV footage in order to identify the suspects.
