SEREMBAN: A Magistrate's Court here has fixed Aug 13 to hear the outcome of a representation filed by a 17-year-old teenager charged with causing the death of three young motorcyclists by driving recklessly.

Magistrate Nurul Azuin Mohd Talhah set the date after counsel for the accused Johan Radzi said the defence team had yet to get a reply on the representation filed with the Attorney General’s Chambers on June 17.

On April 22, the accused claimed trial to a charge of causing the deaths of Muhammad Aidil Ramdan Abdullah, 15, Muhammad Aswari Lotpi, 16, and Aisar Azim Abdullah, 17.

The offence was allegedly committed at the Taman Matahari junction along Jalan Persiaran Senawang 1 near here at 8.30pm on March 6.

The charge under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 carries a jail term of between five and 10 years and a fine of between RM20,000 and RM50,000 upon conviction.

The accused also claimed trial to another charge of driving without a valid licence.

He was charged under Section 26(1) of the same Act, which carries a fine of between RM300 and RM2,000, imprisonment of up to three months, or both, upon conviction.

The accused had also filed a representation for this charge.

In a separate case later, Johan told the court that the 40-year-old mother of the accused has decided against filing a representation to review a charge of allowing her underage son to drive her car.

She had earlier told the court that she would be filing a representation when charged on May 16.

She was charged under Section 39(5) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Offenders can be fined up to RM2,000 or jailed up to six months or both upon conviction.

Magistrate Nurul Azuin then fixed Jan 13 and 14 for the trial.
